In Trifacta, you can flag recipe steps for review in the recipe panel. You can use flags to set up checkpoints in your recipes, which enables flow users to to evaluate the data, provide inputs, and sign off before jobs are executed based on the recipe.

Use Cases

  • Templates - You could flag steps in recipes that act as starter templates within flows that other users may copy. These flags and their related descriptions can be used to provide guidelines for how to implement the step in any copy. They can inform users of specific actions to take such as editing the task or formula input values before they run a job.

  • Peer Reviews - Among your collaborators, you may have experts in specific aspects of the data. You can flag steps for their review, perhaps even including their name in the description value for easy review.

Steps

  1. In the Recipe panel, select the step to flag.

  2. From the Recipe toolbar context menu, select Flag for review

  3. In the Flag for review dialog, enter a valid name and description and click Flag.

  4. A warning icon is displayed over the selected step. You can hover over the warning icon to read the description.

  5. The step has now been marked for review.

  • Indicators will show that a step requires attention and hovering over the step will show the flag’s description.

  • Additionally, a summary indicator with the total count of pending steps in the recipe is shown at the top of the recipe.

  • Also, all steps below the first pending recipe step will be greyed out and uneditable.

The ‘Run’ job button is greyed out if there is at least one pending step in the recipe, preventing access to the job run page.

The following context menu options are available after you select Flag for review option-

a) Mark as Reviewed

From the Recipe toolbar context menu, select the required step and select Mark as reviewed. A tick mark is displayed over the reviewed step.

The step is now cleared of the flag. If there are no additional flagged steps, you can add new recipe steps or run jobs for your recipe.

b) Mark as Pending Review

You can revert the Mark as reviewed flag, by selecting Mark as pending review option. The tick mark is replaced by the warning icon over the selected step.

You can toggle between Mark as reviewed and Mark as pending review options to mark the review as complete or to mark the step as pending review.

c) Rename Review Step

You can edit the name and description by selecting the Rename Review Step option from the context menu.

d) Remove Flag

You can select the Unflag for review option from the context menu to remove the step from review.

Warning Indicator on Flow View

  • On Flow View, each recipe node containing pending steps will display a warning indicator calling attention that the recipe has steps pending review.

  • The recipe preview in the Details panel also shows an indicator next to pending steps

  • A summary indicator on the Flow View page header summarises how many steps are pending in how many recipes.
